A trial was performed in order to evaluate and compare the effect of two butyrate-based feed additives GUSTOR®N’RGY (70% of sodium butyrate protected with sodium salts of PFAD) and BTL (54% sodium butyrate with phosphate salts) on performance and gastrointestinal health in chickens. The additives were added in diets to achieve the same in-feed butyrate concentration. A total of 180 broilers (1-d old) were divided in three groups with 10 animals/box (n=6). In the starter phase (1 – 21d), the treatments were: T1, control group; T2, Gustor N’RGY at 0.77 kg/t; and T3, BTL at 1 kg/t. In the growing phase (21 – 42d), the treatments were: T1, control group; T2, Gustor N’RGY at 0.386 kg/t; and T3, BTL at 0.5 kg/t. Performance parameters and populations of Lactobacillus, Coliforms, Enterobacteriaceae, Clostridia and E-coli in ileum, were evaluated at 21 and 42 d. No statistical differences in performance were found. E-coli populations tended to decrease in T2 respect to the control at day 42, but no differences in the Log CFU/g of studied populations were found at day 21. Animals of Gustor N’RGY group were the heaviest at the end of the trial, increasing a 3.5% of BW than BTL, and showing a reduction in FCR respect to the control in a 1.2%, at 42d. Those animals also presented low contamination with E- coli at 42d
