A total of 400 delegates, mainly from the Spanish and Portuguese poultry industries, universities and R&D centres, attended the Symposium held last October in Santiago de Compostela (Spain). Presentations were given by first class international speakers who covered all the factors affecting broiler and hen productions worldwide and in Spain specifically. From the nutritional and environmental factors that affect broiler health to how to create added value by producing the meat or egg required by the final costumer in the supermarket, going through how the growth of big players such as Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia or China will affect Spanish production and the new requirements for production stated by the European regulation by the animal welfare laws and how to adapt to them. Juan Jose Mallo, Technical Director at Norel, presented data on the benefits of using sodium butyrate in broiler on energy and protein digestibility, as well as the effect on intestinal villi development (see our November 2011 news)
