KRMIVA 2025 – The Effect of a Bypass N-3 Fatty‐Acid Supplementation on the Reproductive Resumption in Dairy Cows after Calving

A recent publication in the KRMIVA Journal by Javier López Paredes, Product Manager at NOREL, evaluated the effect of supplementing dairy cows with Hi-Flax®, a rumen-protected source of n-3 fatty acids from flaxseed oil, during the first 55 days of lactation.

The results showed that dietary supplementation with rumen-protected n-3 fatty acids accelerated the resumption of reproductive activity, shortening the calving interval by more than 30 days and reducing the time to first insemination — without any detrimental effect on milk yield or composition.

These findings support the use of rumen-protected n-3 supplementation as an effective tool to reduce non-productive periods such as open days and calving intervals, while maintaining productive performance in dairy cows.
