The World’s Poultry Science Association (Malaysia Branch) and the World Veterinary Poultry Association (Malaysia Branch) organized they first Scientific Conference end of 2013. This two-day event was organized at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Universiti Putra Malaysia, located near Kuala Lumpur. Although Malaysia has been self-sufficient in poultry meat and eggs for the last 30 years, the industry is facing challenges, such as increasing price of imported feed ingredients, consumers concerns over the safety of poultry products, the threat of avian influenza, environmental issues associated with poultry production, and animal welfare concerns. All these subjects were discussed during the conference, together with a large number of scientific papers focusing on poultry nutrition and disease management. NOREL had the privilege to present a Lead Paper, with the title “Benefits of adding Sodium Butyrate, a sodium salt of the short chain fatty acid butyric acid, in the feed of broilers and other farm animals”. A soft copy of the proceedings is available on request
