Evaluation of the Inclusion of GUSTOR N’RGY in Pig’s Feed

Sodium butyrate is a raw material with proven physiological effects on animals: control of the intestinal barrier, pathogen reduction, increase of mucin synthesis, immune response regulation and effects on the intestinal epithelium. GUSTOR N’RGY is sodium butyrate protected with sodium salts of palm fatty acids, it has been developed to obtain an efficient and healthy animal production due to its gradual release along the gastrointestinal tract. In order to test its efficiency in pigs, a trial was conducted in a commercial farm. The aim of this trial was to evaluate the effect of GUSTOR N’RGY (partially protected sodium butyrate with sodium salts of PFAD) on the performance of piglets during pre-starter period. A total of 140 piglets with 25 days of age were randomly distributed into two different experimental dietary groups (2 replicates per treatment). Treatment 1 had a control diet with additives (acidifiers and essential oils) and antibiotic, and treatment 2 was the same diet as treatment 1 supplemented with 1 kg/t GUSTOR N’RGY. Piglets fed with T2 (GUSTOR N’RGY + additives+ antibiotic) had higher weight (+0.55%) than the ones in a control diet (11.68 Kg vs 11.61 Kg). Also, the average daily gain was higher (+2.38%) (234.2 g/day vs 228.7 g/day). The addition of GUSTOR N’RGY improved the feed conversion ratio (1.35 vs. 1.39). The results obtained in this trial demonstrate that the addition of 1 kg of GUSTOR N’RGY per ton of feed in diets with additives and antibiotics can improve the performance of piglets.
