The study, presented in IPSF 2016, compared the effect of sodium butyrate protected with PFAD sodium salt (GUSTOR N’RGY) with different diets on growth performance. A 2×2 factorial design was used with two basal diets based on wheat, barley and soy: S (standard diet) and L (low nutrient diet: – 60 Kcal/Kg ME and -2.3% AA) with or without GUSTOR N’RGY at 1 kg/t. A total of 200 Cobb one day old chickens were randomly allocated on floor (4 treatments x 5 pens x 10 birds): SN (standard nutrient diet), SY (standard diet with butyrate), LN (low nutrient diet), and LY (low diet with butyrate). The addition of protected butyrate showed animals achieved (P<0.05) higher final BW with higher ADG at 21 d than those without additive (0.807 vs 0.773 Kg and 35.83 vs 34.18 g/d). Also, tended to present better FCR (1.271 vs 1.305) (0-21 d) and numerically in the total period (0-42d) (1.547 vs 1.579). Treatment with low energy and butyrate (LY) had higher FBW (2.34 Kg) and ADG (54.34 g/d) than SN (2.29 Kg and 53.27 g/d). We can conclude that the addition of GUSTOR N’RGY at early stages improves performance results in broilers. On the other hand in this trial, broilers fed with low nutrient diet (- 60 Kcal/Kg and – 2.3% AA) and 1 Kg/t of GUSTOR N’RGY obtained the same FBW than standard diet with 2% improvement of FCR.
