APETENZYMA 2526 BEEF Improves Consumption in Dog Feed

April 03, 2017

One of the major challenges for pet food manufacturers is to get an appealing food. This is an important aspect as a good acceptance and palatability can be the best element to fidelize the client. The use of aromas is an increasing tendency to improve the organoleptic characteristics and make the food more atractive. To evaluate the effect of the flavor Apetenzyam® 2526 Beef in a dog food a test of preference was conducted at the SAW Marktforschung in Germany, an institute specialized in studies of preference and palatability in pets. The trial included a total of 30 medium-sized dogs (10-25 kg weight) that were offered food with and without the aroma for 4 consecutive days. The two treatments were simultaneously offered in the morning as the first food of the day. In total, 120 feed intakes were evaluated. The results showed that the average consumption of the product with the aroma Apetenzyma® 2526 Beef was 14.78% numerically higher than the control. The food with the aroma was also the most consumed in 3 of the 4 days of testing. Analyzing the percentage of consumption of the total food offered, in the treatment with the aroma a 34.2% of the times the dogs finished more than 80% of the feed in the bowl, a 11.7% more times than in the food without aroma. The results of the test showed that the addition of the aroma Apetenzyma® 2526 Beef had a positive effect on the acceptance and consumption of the food
