Fluidarom 1003 trials presented at the XV AIDA Conference

July 29, 2013

The XV Conference of Animal Production organized by the Inter-professional Association of Agricultural Development (AIDA) took place in May2013 in Zaragoza (Spain). Several Universities presented their studies on animal nutrition, genetics, product quality, pathology and digestive microbiology. In the animal nutrition field, the University of Barcelona presented two trials that evaluated the effects of the inclusion of Fluidarom 1003 in the diets of sows and piglets. The concept of Fluidarom 1003 is that markers can pass through the placenta during gestation, or can be transferred to the milk during lactation, and are recognized by the piglet. While consuming feed, the piglet is attracted through marker recognition and is encouraged to increase fed intake, resulting in appropriate growth after weaning. The objective of the first trial was to study if Fluidarom 1003 could represent a familiar signal to the piglets, that facilitates the post-weaning initiation to their solid diet and thus improve the productive parameters at this stage. The trial concluded that the incorporation of Fluidarom 1003 in the diet of the sows at the end of the gestation and lactation improved the daily gain (DWG) of piglets by 4.78% and their daily feed intake (DFI) by 5.34%. In the pre-starter phase, the piglets that consumed the Fluidarom 1003 diet had a superior DWG and DFI of 24.71% and 24.79% compared to the control group. The study confirmed that through the maternal conditioning at the end of the gestation and lactation, the productive results of the piglets can be improved at the time of weaning
